Acrylic Resins [ THERMOSETTING ]

Description

Acrylic resins are derived from acrylic monomers and classified as thermoplastics, thermosets, and acrylic polyols.

Thermoplastic acrylics offer solvent-based solutions that form hard, water-resistant films upon solvent evaporation.

Thermosetting acrylics, with their reactive hydroxyl groups, crosslink with butylated amino resins or other hardners at high temperatures (120-170°C) to produce tough, chemically and UV-resistant films, ideal for industrial and automotive coatings.

Acrylic polyols, possessing hydroxyl groups, can also react with polyisocyanates to form crosslinked polyurethane structures or any other hardners to provide h excellent hardness, water resistance, and chemical resistance. This two-component system finds broad applications in coatings and printing inks.

Acrylic resins' exceptional weatherability, UV resistance, and color retention make them popular for outdoor applications like automotive paints, signage, and windows.

Applications

PU Automotive Paint

The interiors and exteriors of trucks and cars feature many plastic parts. Depending on where the parts are located and what types of plastics are used, they may be protected with a variety of coating layers. Polyurethane (PU) systems provide a long-lasting, high-quality finish regardless of the number of layers.

Baking Alkyd Resin

Alkyd resins are manufactured from the condensation reaction between oil or polyols, acids, and alcohol. They are typically used as binders for coatings and printing inks. For lacquers in particular, nitrocellulose (NC) and CAB with excellent drying properties are used in combination with short oil alkyd resins that have low content of used oil.
